Another Thrift Store Find!
I only wanted one record when I walked into a thrift store in Granada Hills, CA. Records were four for a dollar. I only really wanted one. When I brought it to the counter the clerk couldn't figure out what 1/4 of a dollar came to. She was waiting for an assistant to help her. I basically said 'screw it' and got three more I had passed on. This was one of them.
Spanish - Learn Easily - Pleasantly
It that Dick Van Dyke's neighbor Jerry on the cover? I recognize him from some old TV show.
Having a hard time figuring out what's going on here.
Are these tourists wishing they knew the Spanish word for 'Yoo-Hooo'?
Did they insult the matador by saying the wrong word in Spanish?
Is the wife encouraging the husband to invite the matador back to the hotel for a tres-some?
Does she just want to buy his shoes? Or his hat?
The Stores. The Chores. The Mainstream. The Oddball. The Serious. The Goofy. The Awesome. The Not So Awesome. 45's. 33's. The 'What Were They Thinking.' Stories from the Store. Observations from my armchair.
What's All This Then
Why should I care what this guy has to say?
The correct answer is that you shouldn’t. We’re all entitled to our opinions. Develop your own. I try to be sane and rational, but that may change with the level of caffeine intake. I’m just telling my stories in the hopes they may amuse and/or inform others. And... I Confess... I'm showing off my bitchen collection a bit.

Tom Petty and Bob Dylan
R.I.P. Tom Petty. I never was a fan, but I did respect him for a few reasons.
1. He kept his band together with the same guys from before he was who he was.
2. He stayed true to his roots and vision.
and
3. He got near Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan toured with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. They served as his backing band and did two small sets of their own during the show. I saw two gigs from that tour. The Petty portions served as convenient beer breaks.
Of all the touring they did together, the recorded output was scant. There's one track on Dylan's Knocked Out Loaded LP and this little obscurity.
Bob Dylan with The Heartbreakers - Band of the Hand
The title track to a movie that bombed. I picked up the single when it came out.
Not a bad song by any means. Sure seems odd to see Dylan on something other than Columbia (not counting the brief stint on Asylum for David Geffen's ego).

Johnny Hallyday Est Mort. Vive Le Johnny Hallyday
Johnny Hallyday, The French Elvis, died recently. The news in America hardly made a ripple. In France it was a different story. More people showed up for his funeral than for our president's inauguration. When you compute this on a per capita basis, the attendance was even more staggering.
I'm always on the lookout for his records in the used bins. Since he never caught on here, they're hard to come by. Same with Guy Marchand (but that's for an entirely different reason). I managed to snag one.
Johnny Hallyday - Solitudes a Deux (Phillips 1978)
One side consists of ballads, the other rockers. Needless to say, I play the rocker side more often.
The best way to discover French rock and roll is through Scopitones. These were films made for video jukeboxes. I'll leave it to you to spend a few hours looking at them. My recommendation is to google 'Hallyday Scopitone' or 'Guy Marchand Scopitone'
Here's one to get you started.

This one opens up to reveal Johnny in full late Elvis regalia - complete with Native American accessories. Feast your eyes ladies!

And who can resist the jarring high pitched yodel of Guy Marchand?

Big Box of 45's - Here Are My Keepers
I've had a few queries into my 'Big Box of 45's' posts in the past. There were requests for lists.
As my four or five loyal followers know, I like to buy big boxes of 45's sight unseen on EBay. Here are a few past posts on the subject.

https://vinylstatistics.blogspot.com/2016/08/big-box-of-45s.html
I'll look at the pictures, see a few titles that aren't crap and gamble on the rest. Usually about 150-200 per box. I've done it four times. Here's a list of my keepers.
